Alya Mooro is an Egyptian-born, London-raised writer, producer, and bestselling author. Her debut non-fiction book, The Greater Freedom: Life as a Middle Eastern Woman Outside the Stereotypes, was released worldwide by Little A in 2019. Offering a unique and intimate exploration of the experiences of Middle Eastern women in the diaspora, the book sheds light on the nuanced, diverse narratives within this often underrepresented demographic. Its publication led Glamour Magazine to hail Alya a “Nu-Gen Feminist to know".
Writing for publications including VICE, The Telegraph and Harpers Bazaar Arabia, among others, as well as for her cult newsletter The Greater Conversation, Alya consistently amplifies diverse creatives and gives voice to unique perspectives, using her platform to elevate underrepresented voices in the media landscape. Her BA in Sociology and Psychology, and her Masters in Journalism, allow her to combine sociological and journalistic insights and techniques into her increasingly varied storytelling. She is currently working on her second book, as well as a number of TV projects, both scripted and unscripted.
She has long believed that “it’s easier to be yourself if you can see yourself,” and much of her work is informed by that belief.
